Handpmp.jpg (51678 bytes)

This fire engine was purchased by the village of Antigonish in 1865, an act having been passed by legislature that year, providing for its purchase. This hand engine was an exceedingly good one, and did service until the necessity of such a pumper was removed by the installation of the water system in 1893.

Our fire department members appeared in period dress, pulling the old hand pumper,   during one of the annual Antigonish Highland Games parades.  Our presence was extremely well received by the attending public, watching the parade.

This photo was taken in the early 1950's, the fire station was on the same location

where the station of today stands
